ACC E-Note #62: Definition of Membership Categories for ACC Dues Payment

June 20, 2007

Dear Friends,

I hope this finds everyone enjoying a bit of relaxation during the summer! More pre-convention information follows below.

Minutes of last year's plenary session in Israel are available under the "Members" tab in the members-only section of the ACC website at www.accantors.org.

In addition to the proposal regarding dues for a year from now (2008-2009), which was previewed in ACC E-Note #60, next week's plenum will be considering a clarification of the language utilized to describe member categories for the purpose of dues payment. The latter recommendation, if passed, will become effective August 1, 2007. The redrafting of this language is intended to resolve any confusion that may exist regarding terms like "sustaining" and "retired," for the purposes of dues payment. Here's the proposed formulation:

Definition of Membership Categories for ACC Dues Payment

Regular Member: Except for the subcategories defined below, this status refers to a Member who is working in a full-time or part-time capacity in cantorial/clergy activities or Jewish music- related fields on a regular or periodic basis.

ACC/CA Dual Member: A Dual Member is a Regular Member who is serving a conservative congregation and paying full CA dues. This status requires documentation of CA dues payment to be submitted with the ACC dues form.

Retired Member: A Retired Member is a Regular Member whose primary source of income stems from pension and/or personal retirement funds or the like.

Sustaining Member: A Sustaining Member is a Regular Member whose primary source of income during the dues year is not related to cantorial/clergy activities or Jewish music, and who is not a Retired Member.

Associate Member: This category is identical to Associate Membership as defined in the ACC Constitution, Article V, Section 2.

The Executive Board will review this language once more on Sunday, and additional information will be available to members during the Convention. The goal is to ensure an equitable and transparent policy.

Thanks very much for your consideration.
