ACC Announces the Retirement of Cantor Gail Hirschenfang

As it says in Kohelet (3:1) "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven." After seventeen years of service to the American Conference of Cantors, Cantor Gail Hirschenfang will be retiring as the Director of Member Support on June 30, 2022. Cantor Hirschenfang, along with her husband, Rabbi Dan Polish, will also be retiring from their pulpit in Poughkeepsie, NY at the same time.

"It has been my great privilege to have assisted so many of our members over the past seventeen years. I have participated in many cantorial transitions and professional milestones with our members. I have done my best to advocate on behalf of all my colleagues. My work with the ACC, our members, and congregational lay leaders has enriched me beyond what I ever could have imagined," said Cantor Hirschenfang.

With Cantor Hirschenfang's pending retirement, the ACC has posted the job description for the freshly reimagined Director of Member Services. The posting and application instructions for the part-time position can be found on the ACC's Placement listings as well as on the Member's Only Frequently Requested Documents page. An ACC member does not have to be "in placement" to apply for this position. Qualifications and requirements are listed in the description.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to have served our members and will work with the personnel committee to ensure the staff transition is as seamless as possible," said Cantor Hirschenfang.

ACC President Cantor Claire Franco said, "While we know Cantor Hirschenfang will remain an active and vibrant member of our organization and chair of our Endowment Committee, we wish her well in her new endeavors. We look forward to celebrating Gail's retirement at our Chicago Conference June 7-8, 2022."
