Update for the ACC from our Rabbi Meir Azari and our Partners at the Daniel Centers in Israel

The trauma from October 7th, the relentless Hezbollah and Hamas rockets in the north and south, global antisemitism, and continued, troubling chasms within Israeli civil society weigh heavy on our shoulders. This past year truly has been the most difficult of my career. And, for me and the Daniel Centers, our antidote to the unbearable “weight” placed upon is to take action. Thanks to your generosity and love, we worked on multiple fronts to:

  • Provide months-long shelter to displaced people from the north and south at our guest house and community center Mishkenot Ruth Daniel.
  • Organize community-wide prayers and programs to give so many people a spiritual safe space to heal, come together, and connect.
  • Ensure that lifecycle events continue because this is integral to healing and surviving. Indeed, we had a record number of conversions, weddings, Bnai Mitzvah, and more.
  • Support and organize events for groups and individuals arriving to Israel post-October 7th to deepen Diaspora-Israeli relations.

For us at the Daniel Centers, it’s about momentum; not letting our foot off the gas pedal. This year, more than ever, Israelis need an egalitarian space to pray and fortify themselves for the year ahead. They want – and deserve – a place that is accepting of them as they are.  We expect to see many new faces. Among them Olim (new immigrants) from across the globe including those from Ukraine and Russia that also experienced a tragic war and bereaved families from October 7th and families of fallen soldiers. One need not be a member of our congregations to be welcomed into the Daniel Centers.
