Cosponsored with the CCAR, ACC, and ARJE: Sanctuaries in the Storm: LGBTQ+ Spiritual Care in a Time of Crisis (Part 1 of 2)
Tuesdays, January 30 and February 6, 2024
1:00–3:00 PM ET
Fee: $150
As a wave of anti-queer and anti-trans legislation sweeps the country, the Human Rights Campaign declared a state of emergency for queer and trans people in 2023. In this session we will prepare rabbis, cantors, and educators to address this crisis. Participants will gain the spiritual care tools they need to build welcoming sanctuaries for LGBTQ+ people in this storm of hatred.
Session I
With Elliot Kukla and Eric Weiss
In this two-hour session we will explore LGBTQ+ spiritual care needs throughout the life cycle, including tending to unique milestones like coming out, gender transition, moving to a new, less homophobic city, chosen family building, and more. We will also discuss the issues that emerge for LGBTQ+ people in hospitals, hospices, nursing homes, and other institutional settings.
