Scroll through our page for various video highlights from the ACC!
One of the wonderful things the ACC has begun in the past few years is to show video footage honoring a few of our Vatikim, pillars of the conference, at our conventions each year. Here you will find the archive of these videos. They can also be found on YouTube under the American Conference of Cantor's page.
On November 16, 2010, twenty members of the American Conference of Cantors traveled to Rome to present a program of Jewish Sacred Music entitled “To God's Ears” at Basilica Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri.
One of the most important religious sites in Rome and the state church of Italy, where kings and queens of Italy are married and fallen Italian soldiers are mourned, it is visited by hundreds of people each day. In attendance at this momentous concert event were Ambassador Dr. Miguel Diaz--the United States ambassador to the Holy See; the current Rector of Santa Maria, Monsignor Renzo Giuliano; and Rev. Norbert Hoffman, the secretary of the Vatican's commission on religious relations with the Jews. William Henry Keeler, Archbishop of Baltimore, Maryland, is the Cardinal Priest of this basilica.
“To God's Ears,” a concert and documentary project, chronicles the journey of the ACC members with both American and international representatives of the Roman Catholic church as they dialogue together to bring greater understanding and cooperation between our communities through music. The concert’s program will be performed in various communities across North America to further this dialogue begun in Rome, including a version adapted for presentation at the upcoming URJ North American Biennial in Washington, D.C. in 2011.
The concert, organized by Cantor Claire Franco with assistance from Cantor Roslyn Barak, included the works of Cantor William Sharlin, Louis Lewandowsi, Max Janowski, Ben Steinberg, Cantor Benjie Ellen Schiller, and the world premier of a setting of Psalm 116 in Hebrew and Latin written and donated by Cantor Erik Contzius.
This is a montage of scenes leading up to the American Conference of Cantors concert in Rome's Basilica Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri. 16 November 2010. Music is Cantor Erik Contzius' Mah Ashiv Ladonai - quid retribuam Domino, which received its world premiere at the concert.
