Programs for Youth

First Generation to Generation Award goes to Jeremiah Klarman of Chestnut Hill, MA

Schaumburg, IL. The Guild of Temple Musicians (GTM) and the American Conference of Cantors (ACC) and The Joint Commission on Worship, Music and Religious Living of the Union for Reform Judaism are proud to announce the results of the first Generation to Generation program.  The honor goes to Jeremiah Klarman, a 17-year old high school student and a member of Temple Emanuel in Newton, MA.  Mr. Klarman wrote two pieces, “R’tzei” and “Rom’mu,” that demonstrated the required creation of beautiful melody combined with sensitivity to the setting of Jewish liturgical text. American Conference of Cantors Announces Partnership with
Union for Reform Judaism to Raise Funds for Campers:

Cantors From Across North America Are Singing For Campers!

In 2009, The ACC had the opportunity to join with the URJ leadership in a joint project, spearheaded by Peter Weidhorn, Chairman of the URJ Board, and Past-President Kay Greenwald to raise funds quickly for scholarships for kids to attend URJ Camps.  This was a groundbreaking initiative partnership between our Conference and the URJ, in which they had established an ACC fund for Camperships to provide scholarships for children in Reform congregations to attend Jewish summer camps.  It will be jointly administered by the ACC and the URJ.  We need YOU, the members of the ACC, to participate in fulfilling this initiative by using our unique musical talents to continue to organize and perform in benefit concerts across North America.

This endeavor benefits the ACC in the following ways:
• Creating a positive image for the ACC
• Showing our congregations that we care about our youth and their parents’ economic needs
• Supporting Reform Youth activities, which is a primary goal of the URJ
• Enhancing the relationship between cantors and youth, linking Jewish Music and Camping
• Is a fun and easy way to network and sing with your colleagues

While we encouraging giving money to support scholarships that enable Jewish children to attend any of our URJ Camp programs, this initiative formally occurs bi-annually. Therefore, we will once again be focusing in a more significant way beginning June 2011. Stay tuned for more information.

Until then, please consider giving generously to support scholarships for URJ Camps.

If you are planning a concert, please let us know when they are scheduled so that information can be included in all of the subsequent publicity regarding this exciting project!
