November 2011
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
I hope that this letter finds you well and enjoying productive, fulfilling, and inspiring work with those you serve.
I look forward to joining many of you at the next ACC/GTM Convention at the Red Lion Inn -Jantzen Beach in Portland, Oregon. As a reminder the dates are June 24-28, 2012.
Along with our scholars Alan Morinis and Rabbi Steven Kaye, we can look forward to additional educational opportunities, concerts, communal meals, leisure activities and collegial fellowship. As you know, planning and executing high quality conventions requires hard work, dedication, and, yes, funding. In the past, registration fees covered nearly all of our convention expenses – this is no longer the case because of rising costs in all aspects of our conventions. Higher prices coupled with our ailing economy have made the need for our fundraising efforts this year all the more poignant.
In recent years we have looked at creative ways to help fund our conventions in order to uphold high quality programming and to maximize the number of colleagues who can participate. We therefore look to you, our colleagues and friends, to share in the challenge of securing funding for another outstanding convention. As in the past, we are asking you to consider underwriting various parts of the convention. We hope you will be generous and receptive to this request. Maybe your resources lie in your discretionary fund or perhaps a special donor from your congregation or community. Please take a look at the attached opportunities to sponsor a meal, a program, a scholar, or some other convention activity.
I personally want to thank you for your generous donation last year. Because of your support, more people attended the Boston convention than originally thought possible. I am asking that you donate once again - and this time with at least a 20% increase. Times are still hard for so many of our colleagues who will benefit from the opportunity to reunite with colleagues in prayer and study. Because the housing cost of the Portland convention is truly a deal, I hope that the money you save will be channeled to your donation.
If you have any questions, concerns or ideas please do not hesitate to email or call me at hazzansw@aol.com or 781-724-4001.
Sincerely,

Cantor Steven Weiss
